Norfolk Academy Literacy Fellows
The Norfolk Academy Literacy Fellows program will engage high-achieving high school students in a four-year academic literacy campaign in Hampton Roads. The Fellows hope that this program will show all the young students they can reach that they not only can read and write well, but that they can be authors. The Fellows will be in the Tidewater Park classrooms once a week through the fall of 2014 and continue their relationships through the spring semester. The goal is that the Fellows will continue their with their class at Tidewater Park until the Norfolk Academy students are in the 12th grade and their Tidewater Park cohorts are in the 4th grade. They hope that this long-term partnership will not only promote literacy among the younger students, but could even affect the SOL tests the elementary students take in the 5th grade.
